Geoff Horrocks

Geoff Horrocks has earned a reputation as one of the premier pianists in the Canadian fiddle community, and is also quickly becoming recognized for his vocal performances of standard ballads of the 1930s to 1950s. He has recorded, produced, and performed on CDs by several artists. Geoff also travels across the country teaching piano and fiddle at fiddle camps and workshops.

Born in Montreal, Quebec in the mid 1960s, Geoff was fortunate to have grown up with a keyboard in the house. Geoff’s first instrument was an old pump organ, followed by a Hammond organ. Many hours were spent playing old standards while his father played along on the trumpet.

At the age of 10, Geoff moved with his family to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he continued playing his dad’s old organ and developing his ear. Geoff developed his love for the ocean, lakes and rivers, as his favourite activity was fishing during the spring and summer months.

Having moved to Ottawa in 1983, Geoff completed high school and went to college to become an electronics engineering technologist. After graduation, Geoff spent most of his career in product development, manufacturing engineering and operations management for Telecom and Digital imaging companies.

Fortunately for Geoff, in the early 1990’s, he discovered fiddle music through his father and his new friend Randy Foster. At that time he was instantly hooked and decided to take up serious study of the fiddle and piano.

Years later, with the support of his family and encouragement from his friends, Geoff decided to focus all his efforts towards music, and now makes his living as a full time musician. He teaches piano accompaniment and fiddle, produces and records at his studio in Ottawa, and performs with local country artists and many of Canada’s premier fiddle players.

"Geoff is one of the best piano players that a fiddle player can ever hope to play with.  Up until this point, there's only been one of him to go around!  Thanks to technology, every fiddler can have the opportunity to be accompanied by this world class piano player.  I warn you though, once you play along with his accompaniment recordings, it quickly becomes addictive  and before you know it, hours can pass by!  Whether it's just the basic tunes, or a custom made recording that you'd like, Geoff Horrocks is truly a Fiddler's Best Friend."
